An Airtight Home Creates a Healthy Home

As the days grow shorter and the air turns crisp, keeping your home warm and cozy naturally moves to the top of mind. The good news? When your home is airtight from the start, keeping the cold out and the warmth in, the changing seasons become something to enjoy rather than worry about. That’s where high-performance windows and doors make all the difference, and why Innotech Windows + Doors are built to keep your home comfortable all winter long.

Windows and Doors Made for Airtightness

Innotech windows and doors are manufactured to deliver superior airtightness. Each one is tested, rated and labelled in accordance with the North American Fenestration Standard/Specification (NAFS). But meeting the benchmark is only the beginning. We also conduct regular in-house and on-site air leakage testing as part of our ongoing commitment to performance. Over more than twenty-five years, this dedication has allowed us to keep refining our products to deliver outstanding results, airtightness included.

Airtightness in Action: Defender 76TS and Defender 88PH+ Pro

The Defender 76TS and Defender 88PH+ Pro demonstrate Innotech’s commitment to airtightness, with both systems achieving an air leakage rate of 0.00 CFM/FT². Designed for high-performance residential projects, these advanced window systems help minimize uncontrolled air leakage and support comfortable, energy-efficient indoor environments.

Airtightness Across Different Project Types

Airtightness plays an important role in both custom homes and multifamily developments. Two examples demonstrate how high-performance building design can support comfortable, energy-efficient living environments across different project types.

Project Leo: A Net-Zero Home

Explore Project Leo, a custom home that showcases the role of airtightness in supporting high-performance, net-zero-ready living in Calgary, Alberta. Its approach to energy efficiency demonstrates how thoughtful design and building envelope performance work together to support long-term comfort.

Vienna House: High-Performance Multifamily Housing

Discover Vienna House, a multifamily Passive House project in Vancouver, British Columbia that demonstrates how high-performance building strategies can be applied to larger residential developments. The six-storey, 123-unit development highlights how energy efficiency and indoor comfort can be prioritized in affordable housing.

Triple Weather Seals

Every Innotech window and door is built with three high-quality, flexible and continuous weather seals:

• Exterior seal, positioned on the outside of the frame
• Interior seal, positioned on the inside of the frame
• Center seal, a continuous seal with heat-welded corners, precisely positioned to tighten further as air pressure against the window increases

Together, these three seals create a consistent barrier against air infiltration and exfiltration, no matter what the weather is doing outside.

Multipoint Locking Hardware

Airtightness isn’t only about the seals. It’s also about how securely a window or door closes. Our multipoint locking hardware engages at several points along the frame, drawing the sash or panel evenly and firmly into its seals. The result is a dependable barrier against air, water and sound across the entire window or door.

Passive House Institute Certified

Airtightness is one of the key performance metrics for buildings designed to meet the Passive House standard. By minimizing uncontrolled air leakage, an airtight building envelope helps reduce heat loss in winter and heat gain in summer, support consistent indoor temperatures and allow mechanical ventilation systems to operate as intended. Innotech’s Passive House certified windows and doors are designed to support these demanding performance goals while delivering reliable air, water and sound resistance.

Why Airtightness Means a Healthier Home

A well-sealed home does more than keep you warm. Fewer drafts mean more even temperatures from room to room. Reducing uncontrolled air leakage helps limit condensation and the moisture problems that can come with it. And when your home isn’t letting in outside air through gaps and cracks, your ventilation system can do its job properly, bringing in fresh, filtered air on your terms.

Airtightness and Wildfire Smoke

As wildfire seasons become a familiar concern across much of North America, protecting indoor air quality is increasingly important. Wildfire smoke can carry fine particles and other pollutants that affect the air we breathe. A well-sealed building envelope helps reduce the entry of outdoor pollutants through gaps and cracks, while a properly designed ventilation system with suitable filtration helps manage indoor air quality. Together, an airtight building envelope with equally airtight windows and doors and an effective ventilation can help create a healthier indoor environment when outdoor air quality deteriorates.

A Healthier Home, Now and for Years to Come

With high-performance windows and doors installed into an airtight building envelope your home stays comfortable, quiet and healthy in every season.
