Project Overview
Heartwood House is a redevelopment of a hotel on Salt Spring Island in British Columbia. The existing building was strategically retrofitted and thoughtfully redesigned to accommodate 18-unit residential units to provide stable, long-term housing for healthcare workers at Lady Minto Hospital.

Retrofit Attracts & Retains Critical Healthcare Workers
Developed through a partnership between NDY Contracting and the Lady Minto Hospital Foundation, the 11,200 sq. ft. project transformed the former Seabreeze Inne into a quality multi-family residential building. The retrofit addressed a pressing housing need while supporting recruitment and retention efforts for the Gulf Islands healthcare community.
The results so far have exceeded expectations. Heartwood House played a central role in a Foundation-supported recruitment campaign last summer and fall that brought 10 new hires to Lady Minto Hospital — including four international recruits, two of them from the United States.”

As part of the retrofit and transformation of the former Seabreeze Inne, Innotech Services supplied and installed high-performance window systems that enhance the building’s energy efficiency, comfort, and long-term performance. Supporting the conversion of the property into 18 purpose-built rental homes for healthcare workers, the windows provide abundant natural light, thermal efficiency, and lasting durability. The result is a modern residential environment that helps support the wellbeing of the healthcare professionals who serve the Salt Spring Island community.
